Paying for No-Code and Automation Tools with Crypto (Bubble, Zapier, Make)

VeloCards TeamVeloCards Team

Last month my Zapier bill jumped from $73 to $159.

I'd added six new zaps for a client project, forgot to audit them when the project ended, and they kept running. Normal month-over-month variability for anyone building with automation tools. The kind of thing you shrug off.

What I didn't shrug off: my bank flagging the transaction as "unusual spending pattern" and declining the charge. Zapier suspended my team plan. Every automation stopped. Client integrations went dark.

All because a $159 SaaS subscription looked suspicious to an algorithm at 2 AM.

I'd been funding my no-code stack with crypto cards for maybe six months by then — just not this particular Zapier account. After that night I moved every tool over. Bubble, Make, Airtable, Notion, the whole stack. No more bank algorithms deciding whether my legitimate SaaS spending looks "normal."

This guide covers how to set that up: paying for no-code and automation tools with BTC, ETH, or USDT.

What You'll Have at the End

By the end of this tutorial, you'll have a crypto-funded virtual card connected to your no-code subscriptions. Bubble workspace billing funded with stablecoins. Zapier plans paid with ETH. Make operations topped up with Bitcoin. Whatever combination your stack requires.

You'll also know how to handle usage-tier upgrades — when your Make plan jumps from 10,000 operations to 40,000 mid-month, or when your Bubble app needs more server capacity.

Prerequisites

Before starting:

- A [VeloCards](https://velocards.com) account — email-only works for testing ($100 lifetime limit), but for ongoing SaaS subscriptions you'll want KYC verification to unlock unlimited spending
- BTC, ETH, or USDT in a wallet you control
- Your no-code platform accounts (Bubble, Zapier, Make, Airtable, etc.)
- 15-20 minutes for the full setup

Why No-Code Platforms Don't Take Crypto Directly

Quick reality check: Bubble doesn't accept Bitcoin. Neither does Zapier. Or Make. Or any major no-code platform.

They want Visa, Mastercard, sometimes PayPal. That's the entire list.

The reasons are boring and practical. Their payment processors handle traditional rails. Their accounting systems expect dollars or euros. Adding crypto support means compliance overhead, volatility handling, and integration work — for a feature maybe 2% of their users would actually use.

Will Bubble ever accept ETH directly? Maybe. I'm not betting my workflow on it.

The workaround: put your crypto onto a card that no-code platforms already accept.

Step 1: Create a Virtual Card for No-Code Billing

Go to [VeloCards](https://velocards.com) and create an account. Signup takes about three minutes.

Email-only accounts (Tier 1) give you one card with a $100 lifetime spending limit. That's fine for a single month of testing. But Zapier Professional alone runs $73.50/month, so you'll burn through $100 fast. For ongoing subscriptions, do KYC verification upfront — unlocks unlimited spending and multiple cards.

Create a new virtual card. Give it a name you'll recognize. I use "No-Code Stack" for mine. (I'm slightly better at naming cards than I used to be. Slightly. My first one was called "Card 1." Very imaginative.)

You'll get:

- A 16-digit card number
- An expiration date
- A CVV
- A billing address (use this exactly when adding to platforms)

Card creation at Tier 2 costs $30. Monthly fee is $15. So $30 upfront plus $15/month as the base cost. If you're spending $200+/month on no-code tools anyway, this is noise in the budget.

I run one card for all my no-code subscriptions. You could split them — separate card for automation tools vs. app builders — but I haven't found that necessary. One card, one balance to watch. Fewer things to forget about. (I will forget about things.)

Step 2: Fund the Card

Click "Add Funds" in your VeloCards dashboard and select your crypto: Bitcoin, Ethereum, or USDT.

For no-code subscriptions, here's how I think about load amounts:

**Typical no-code stack monthly costs:**
- Bubble (Professional): $29/month
- Zapier (Professional): $73.50/month
- Make (Pro): $16.67/month (billed annually)
- Airtable (Team): $20/user/month
- Notion (Plus): $10/user/month

Running a solo builder stack with Bubble + Zapier + Airtable? That's roughly $122/month. Load $400 for a comfortable three-month buffer.

**Usage-based considerations:**

Here's where no-code billing gets tricky. Zapier charges by tasks. Make charges by operations. Bubble charges by workload units and server capacity. A quiet month costs one thing. A month where your app goes viral (or you're testing heavily) costs something else entirely.

My approach: load 2-3x my average monthly spend. If my typical no-code bill is $150, I keep $300-450 on the card. Reload when it drops below $150.

**Which crypto to use?**

USDT on Arbitrum or Base is cheapest for regular loads — gas under $0.10, confirms in seconds. ETH mainnet works but gas fluctuates ($3-15 depending on congestion). BTC is fine for larger amounts but network fees run $1-5.

For SaaS subscriptions in the $100-300/month range, USDT on L2 makes the most sense unless you specifically want to spend your BTC. Honestly, I wish more people talked about gas costs before recommending "just use crypto" — it matters at these dollar amounts. For more on funding options, see our [guide on funding crypto cards](/post/crypto-virtual-card-glossary-terms).

The deposit fee at Tier 2 is 4%. On a $400 load, that's $16. Factor it in.

Step 3: Add the Card to Bubble

Bubble's billing lives in your account settings.

1. Log into your Bubble app editor
2. Click your profile icon → "Account"
3. Navigate to "Billing"
4. Under "Payment methods," click "Add new card"
5. Enter card number, expiration, CVV, and billing address exactly as shown in VeloCards

Bubble runs an authorization check — usually $0 or $1 — to verify the card. If it declines, double-check your billing address. That's almost always the issue.

**A note on Bubble's pricing tiers:**

Bubble upgraded their pricing structure in 2025. The Professional plan at $29/month covers most solo builders. But if your app needs more workload units — say you're getting real traffic — you'll upgrade mid-cycle. Keep buffer for this. Going from Professional to Team ($119/month) shouldn't catch you with an empty card.

Step 4: Add the Card to Zapier

Zapier billing happens in your workspace settings.

1. Go to zapier.com and log in
2. Click Settings → "Billing"
3. Under "Payment method," click "Update"
4. Add your VeloCards card details

Same deal: small authorization hold, verify billing address matches exactly.

**Zapier's usage model:**

Zapier charges by tasks (successful operations). The Professional plan at $73.50/month includes 2,000 tasks. Go over? You either upgrade or pay overage fees.

This is where crypto card funding shines. If you get a notification that you're approaching your task limit and need to upgrade, you can fund the card with USDT in two minutes and have it ready for the increased charge. No waiting for a bank wire. No declined card while your automations halt.

One thing I learned the hard way: Zapier's billing page shows "next invoice estimate" — check it weekly. If it's climbing faster than expected, you've either built something good or made something that runs too often. Usually the latter. Ask me how I know.

Step 5: Add the Card to Make (formerly Integromat)

Make's billing works similarly.

1. Go to make.com and log in
2. Click your organization → "Billing"
3. Add or update your payment method

Make charges by operations. The Pro plan at $16.67/month (paid annually, $199/year) includes 10,000 operations. Heavy automation months burn through operations faster.

Make's annual billing means you're paying ~$200 in one charge instead of monthly drips. Annoying. Set a calendar reminder two weeks before your Make renewal to check your card balance. Zapier's monthly billing is easier to manage — smaller, predictable charges.

Step 6: Add the Card to Airtable, Notion, and Others

Airtable

1. Go to airtable.com → Account → "Billing"
2. Add payment method under your workspace billing

Airtable's Team plan runs $20/seat/month. Solo? That's $20. Five-person team? That's $100. Know your seat count.

Notion

1. Go to notion.so → Settings → "Billing"
2. Update payment method

Notion Plus at $10/seat/month is one of the cheaper subscriptions in a typical no-code stack. But it adds up if you're running a workspace with multiple members.

Webflow, Retool, Softr, Glide...

Same pattern everywhere. Find billing settings, add card, use exact billing address. Any platform that accepts Visa or Mastercard accepts your crypto-funded card. The merchant doesn't know or care how the card is funded.

Handling Usage Tier Upgrades

No-code tools are built on usage tiers. You start on one plan, your project grows, you upgrade. Banks sometimes flag sudden increases — you've been paying $29/month for Bubble, suddenly there's a $119 charge.

With a crypto card, this is a non-issue. The card checks: is there balance? Is the card active? Charge approved.

When I start a project that might scale, I front-load my card balance. Instead of keeping 2x monthly spend, I keep 4x. If the app takes off mid-month and I need to upgrade Bubble and Zapier simultaneously, the money is already there.

Common Errors and Fixes

Card declined when adding to platform

**Most common cause:** Billing address mismatch. Use exactly what's shown in your VeloCards dashboard. Every space, every abbreviation.

**Second most common:** Insufficient balance for authorization hold. Load at least $50 even if your first subscription is $29 — holds can be higher than the charge amount.

Subscription suspended after missed payment

You forgot to fund the card. It happens. I've done it twice.

1. Top up the card
2. Go to the platform's billing page
3. Retry payment or reactivate subscription

Most platforms retry failed payments before full suspension. Bubble gives you 7-14 days typically. Zapier is less forgiving — failed payment can pause your zaps within days.

Upgrade failed mid-cycle

You tried to upgrade from Bubble Professional to Team, but the card didn't have enough for the prorated charge.

Fix: fund the card, then retry the upgrade. Bubble usually calculates the prorated amount and shows it before charging. Check that number, make sure your balance covers it, then confirm.

Recurring charge declined unexpectedly

Your card balance was fine yesterday, but some other charge hit first.

This happens when you're running multiple subscriptions on one card and they all bill within a few days of each other. If balance gets tight, the last one to charge loses.

Solution: keep more buffer. I aim for at least one month extra beyond my total subscription costs. For a $200/month no-code stack, I keep at least $400 on the card.

Next Steps

Once your no-code stack runs on crypto-funded billing:

**Add your other SaaS.** Hosting (Vercel, Railway), analytics, email tools — same workflow. Any subscription that accepts Visa or Mastercard. If you're running paid campaigns to promote what you're building, [ClickzProtect](https://clickzprotect.com) filters out fraudulent clicks before they drain your ad budget.

**Check balance weekly.** I check every Monday morning. Takes 30 seconds. If it's dropped below my monthly total, I top up. Simple routine that prevents 2 AM emergencies. Will I skip this some weeks? Obviously. But the habit helps.

**Know your total spend.** These tools add up. $29 here, $74 there, $20/seat across three tools — suddenly you're at $300/month. For more on whether crypto card funding beats cashing out entirely, see our cost comparison guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I pay for Zapier directly with Bitcoin?

No. Zapier only accepts credit cards and doesn't have native crypto payment support. But you can fund a VeloCards virtual card with BTC, ETH, or USDT and add that card to your Zapier account. Zapier sees a regular Visa or Mastercard — the crypto funding is invisible to them.

How do I handle usage-based billing that changes month to month?

Keep more loaded than your typical month needs. Make and Zapier both have usage tiers that can jump when you run more automations. I keep 2-3x my average monthly spend on the card and check balance weekly. Better to have buffer than to miss a billing cycle and pause your automations.

Will my no-code subscriptions auto-renew on a crypto card?

Yes. Bubble, Zapier, Make, Airtable — they all charge monthly like any SaaS. The card works exactly like a bank-issued card for recurring billing. Just keep enough balance loaded. If the card is empty when they charge, payment fails and your subscription suspends.

Which no-code platforms accept crypto virtual cards?

Any no-code platform that accepts Visa or Mastercard accepts a crypto virtual card. This includes Bubble, Zapier, Make, Airtable, Notion, Webflow, Retool, Softr, Glide, and basically every other no-code SaaS. The card network determines acceptance, not the funding source.
